The future of Mobile Mapping?
January 30th, 2008 | by admin |The guys over at enGadget have an interesting article on the next generation of software available for the iPhone. Applications such as Google Maps will run natively - which means faster and more reliably.
This opens up all sorts of interesting propositions for businesses in our industry. Imagine being able to have not only a detailed map but access to all of the useful information available online too. Imagine, real time traffic alerts, dragging data from your vehicle tracking solution or from your customer records in TravelManager for example.
We will be looking at the iPhone in more detail over the coming weeks and months and will start to develop innovative applications which take advantage of these services.
Not to be outdone, Nokia has just announced that it is purchased a swedish company called Trolltech, which is famed in the development community and also has a lot of code in place in service such as Google Maps - so this space looks especially interesting over the next couple of months.
