Remote Control - Internet Style Part II

January 9th, 2008 | by admin |

Today, I found a good article on the BBC covering the Consumer Electronics Show currently being held in Las Vegas. The head of Intel (the guys who design and build the brain of the majority of computers in production today) maps out where he see’s the Internet going over the next 5 years.

He said “It’s an Internet that is proactive, predictive and context-aware” and he expects the first versions of new devices sporting his new “Mobile Internet chips” to hit the market later this year. They will be “devices you carry aroud in your pocket and can deliver the full Internet, with no compromises”

Imagine that.  The power of the Internet, and everything that comes with it at your fingertips - anywhere, anytime.

Companies that adopt this new technology will command more market share than businesses that don’t - why? Because, business is going online. During 2007, over £50bn (yes billion) was spent online by British consumers.

“Over two thirds of British shoppers state 24 hour opening hours (72%), avoidance of Christmas shopping crowds (70%) and home delivery (64%) as being the primary reasons for shopping for gifts online. 69% are also swayed by price, but convenience is the major driver of online Christmas sales.”  Source: IMRG

Users are now comfortable with the Internet. They expect to be able to deal with businesses online - and they expect to be able to interact with businesses 24/7. I mean don’t you?

Over the next couple of years, more and more people will adopt the Internet as their primary source for buying and selling goods / services.  New wireless services such as WiMAX (think “really big WiFi” network like the one you have in your home / office but covering whole towns / cities)  and 3G (ie. mobile phone based Internet) will bring more people online and they will all expect to be able to “connect” to your business.

Imagine, the possibilities of a truly “Internet Anywhere” solution for your business. What would you want to do with it? Talk to us - we might just be able to help :-)

Regards

Richard
