Remote Control - Internet style

December 30th, 2007 | by admin |

I’m currently sat on my balcony overlooking the sea on the algarve coast of portugal (yes, as I type this). Every New Year the festival in Albufeira is fantastic (they have live bands playing on the beach and local dishes cooked and served up in a makeshift restuarant with long benches on the marble courtyard next to the stage) and I take the opportunity to visit whenever possible.

So here I am :-)

But I’m still connected to the Internet. I have broadband in my apartment (where I am typing this from now) and I also have an Internet enabled mobile phone where I can recieve emails and view websites etc..

I have my office phones re-directed to my mobile, but I also have a VoIP (Voice over IP - think Skype) account for making international calls or holding voice conferences cheaply.

I’m in as much control of my business as I would be if I were sat in my office during the day. So much so, that I will still be running the online training sessions whilst over here (we use the Internet to deliver the training so it doesnt matter where I am after all)

I can connect to TravelManager from here and see customer information etc.. just as though I was sat in the office.

I get my faxes delivered to my email account - which I can read on the beach if I so wish

In fact the only thing I can’t do as if I were in the office is open the mail :-)

This is the power of the Internet.

There are lots of components too it - its just a case of figuring out which components make sense for your business and then putting them together in such a way that they work seemlessly and invisibily for you.

The thing to remember is that everything is possible - you just need to know how or who to ask. So, if you have any questions - ask me.

Regards

Mike
